Insomnia. It’s Good 4 You.

27 Feb

So, at Temple, I’m a part of this group called Insomnia Theater. It’s kind of like Saturday Night Live. You know how they have a whole week to rehearse and perform on Saturday? Insomnia Theater crams that all into one weekend! A couple Fridays ago (also why I’ve been MIA!) we had rehearsals at seven. Actors come and typically do funny monologues, songs, and one person even did a mini-skit for his audition! After auditions, the writers and directors stay and pick actors for their shows. Once that’s decided, the directors leave and rest up for Saturday while the writers spend all of Friday night and the wee hours of Saturday morning writing awesome and hilarious skits, based off of a theme that the Insomnia E-Board (the students in charge) come up with.

Here’s a couple of pictures of our scrambled writing process!

Then on Saturday, all of the actors, directors and writers meet up at the Bell Tower at 8 AM sharp to warm-up and get down to rehearsing ALL day until the show starts later that night (usually around 7 or 7:30). Luckily, once the directors and actors get their scripts, the writers are free to go home and get some much needed sleep.

This time around, I co-wrote with my fellow owl, Cynda! The theme was a little different this time. Since it was just past Valentine’s Day, the E-board decided to have one person from each writing group (about 4 total) pick from a bag of Valentines Day candy hearts varying from “Be Mine” to “Good 4 You” to “Good 4 Me” and various other sayings. With this heart, the writers had to create a skit based either off of the heart alone, or with the saying somewhere in the script. Cynda and I got the “Good 4 You” heart and so we wrote about a guy with two split personalities who’s saying was “It’s Good 4 You.”

Here’s a video of the skit, if any of you guys wanted to check it out!
